Bullying

 LAW ENFORCEMENT CORNER

Hello Parents,

This month I would like to discuss the problem of bullying. The Polk County School Board, the school staff, and the Lakeland Police Department take a no tolerance stance on bullying. Students that are bullying their peers will be dealt with according to the student code of conduct and the Florida State law.

Bullying is not downplayed and is addressed by the staff when it occurs. The staff encourages students to tell them about bullies and the students know that a fair resolution will result. Bullying is recognized as a problem to be dealt with.

Bullies try to isolate and ostracize their victims. We encourage students to talk about bullying and become a part of the school social strata. We constantly emphasize that bullying is not acceptable behavior. We minimize bullying opportunities by providing lots of supervision. We educate our teachers to recognize bullying behavior and address it.

We take a proactive team approach to stop bullying. We encourage parents, teachers and students to visit the website www.nobully.org.nz . When we all work together to stop aggressive behavior, to quote Teddy Roosevelt, the results will be “Bully!”

Thanks,

Mark Ingram 223
